When caring for wheelchair bound elderly, there will be occasions when you need to load their wheelchair into a car boot for transport.
Read on to find out how to place a wheelchair into a car boot safely.
Step 1: Remove the footrests and fold the wheelchair
Apply pressure on the lever and remove the footrest. Pull the center of the seat fabric to fold the wheelchair.
Step 2: Hold the main frame of the wheelchair (behind the larger wheel)
Hold the main frame firmly and rest one side of the wheelchair on your body
NOTE: DO NOT hold the armrest of the wheelchair when lifting. By doing so, the carrier will have to be in a position that requires them to arch their back more, causing physical strain to their back.
Step 3: Place the wheelchair in the boot at a 45 degree angle
Lift the wheelchair and place it lightly into the boot at a 45 degree angle
Step 4: Ensure all parts of the wheelchair are in the boot
Push the wheelchair into the boot and ensure all parts of the wheelchair are in the boot. Once that is done, close the boot and you are ready to go!
